So I hope all the rape jokes don't offend anyone. I mean, it's supposed to be offensive humor but it's also parodying made-up comic book super hero stories. It's about as far from reality as it gets. So obviously I'm not condoning rape, just like I don't condone all the other shit I joke about (if you want to generously call them jokes, that is) like murder or pooping on people or popping boners in public (unless it's a really nice boner). I hate rape. Just so's we're all clear.

Anyway, the X-Dudes start their rescue mission and they learn a bit more about the fake island of Genosha, and find out it's like I already said. A bunch of white folks living in an island off the coast of Madagacar figured out a way to kidnap mutants and turn them into lobotomized super powered slaves. Thus they transform their tiny backwater island nation into a technologically advanced paradise. BUT AT WHAT COST???

Obviously it's a South African apartheid allegory, tho by 1988 when this was published the institution of apartheid was already in it's long over due death throes. P.W. Botha had started the negotiation process for Nelson Mandela's release in 1985 and by 1990 he was a free man and leading the no longer banned African National Congress. GREAT HISTORY LESSON I KNOW RIGHT?

But Genosha has no Nelson Mandela. It just has some kid who is son of the Dr Moreau, the Genegineer, who's job it is to genetically reprogram all the mutants and turn them into slaves. Except that he is in love with a young mutant, slated for genetic reengineering. DAD PLEASE, I LOVE HER, YOU CANT! He pleads. IT'S DONE his dad stoically replies.

It's all very sad, and it's a great, heartfelt co-plot to give the comic action some sorrowful real life resonance.

Also Rogue gets prison raped.
